FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a kitchen or whole-home remodel take?

Kitchen remodels typically run about 3–6 weeks depending on scope. Whole-home remodels range from roughly 2–5+ months based on the size and complexity of the project. You’ll get a realistic timeline before construction begins.

Do I need a permit to remodel my home in Austin or Dallas?

Structural, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC work generally requires a permit in both Austin and Dallas; cosmetic updates like paint, flooring, and fixtures typically don’t. When your project’s scope requires permits, GMG Homes handles the permitting process for you.

Can I live in my home during the remodel?

Often, yes. For single-room projects like a bathroom, most clients stay home comfortably. Kitchen remodels are livable with a temporary setup. For whole-home remodels, we’ll talk through phasing or temporary arrangements before work begins.

Do I need to hire an interior designer separately?

No — that’s the difference at GMG Homes. Every remodel is designer-led: Gracie designs the space, and GMG Homes serves as the general contractor, managing trusted subcontractors and trades throughout the project. One team owns both how it looks and how it’s built.

What happens if something unexpected comes up mid-project?

We tell you right away. If hidden damage or unexpected conditions are discovered, you’ll get a written change order to approve before any additional work is completed. We also recommend keeping a contingency in your budget, especially for older homes.

What’s the difference between remodeling and renovating?

Renovating restores or updates what’s already there — paint, fixtures, finishes. Remodeling changes the structure or function of a space: moving walls, reworking a kitchen layout, converting rooms. GMG Homes does both, from refreshes to full transformations.
